Trip Details

Mexico City isn’t some sanitized beach resort for spring breakers and retirees. This city bites, claws, and spits in your face. It’s a sensory assault, a chaotic love letter to life written in smog, alcohol, and street vendors.

This city has got it all. Light-drenched skyscrapers spewing fire into the smog, tree-lined streets that seem to come straight out of a movie set, and rivers of traffic lights in a hurry to get somewhere.

You won’t find any sombreros and margaritas on this trip. We’ll find street tacos that’ll make your tastebuds weep with joy and have drinks that’ll send you on a spirit quest. There’s also molecular gastronomy pushing boundaries, pre-Hispanic flavors resurrected in hidden doorways, and Oaxacan tlayudas the size of car tires waiting to be devoured.

This trip is meant to be an adventure and your accommodations are meant to be your haven from those daily adventures that this beautiful, chaotic city has to offer. Here magic hides in every corner.

See Mexico City the way it’s meant to be seen. It will swallow you whole. But trust me, the bite’s worth the ride.

Itinerary

Day 1June 7, 2024

Arrival: We’ll meet you at the airport anytime between noon and 9 PM

Taxi – From the airport to casa Week Abroad

Check-in – We’ll get you settled into your room at the Week Abroad House.

Dinner –  Included is a welcome dinner at a local restaurant. We’ll get a chance to get to know each other.

Walking: light.

Day 2June 8, 2024

First full day! Let’s make sure your phones and cameras are fully charged.

Coffee – First things first. As always, we’ll head over to a local coffee spot for some of that sweet nectar.

Breakfast – Included breakfast

Centro Historico – We’ll take a walk at the famous “Zocalo” and feel the unmatched energy from the center of this massive city. We’ll have opportunities to Admire Diego Rivera’s murals at the Palacio Nacional, explore the Aztec ruins, and if you’re lucky get blessed by the Aztec gods.

Food Market – This isn’t some Disneyfied food court. This is where Mexico eats, where generations have sweated over cazuelas and passed down recipes like heirlooms. You’re not just grabbing a bite, you’re stepping into a living, breathing tapestry of history, tradition, and pure, unadulterated flavor. Meal is not included so you’ll have the freedom to try what you want.

Free Time – After the market we’ll head back to the house. You’ll have the option to explore this city for a few hours on your own.

Street Tacos – Because duh. Included.

Cocktails – We’ll visit back alley speakeasies. We’re talking about a gritty, glorious embrace of a Mexico City dive bar. Imagine peeling back a rusted door to be greeted by a cacophony of laughter, clinking glasses, and a speaker throbbing like a second heartbeat. Hang with artists with paint-stained fingers, poets scribbling on napkins, and musicians coaxing magic from battered guitars. Every wall is a graffiti canvas, every conversation a telenovela waiting to unfold. You’ll sip drinks alongside locals debating politics, anticipate the promise of greasy taquitos that ooze melted cheese and whispered secrets, and lose yourself in the rhythm of a city that truly never sleeps. We’ll discover where Mexico bleeds its soul, one shot of tequila at a time.

Walking: Medium – High

Day 3June 9, 2024

This is your second full day in this city. You’ll have an opportunity to explore this city on your own today.

Coffee and Breakfast – Included

Free Time – Make the most of this city. Embrace the unexpected, trust your instincts, and get lost in Mexico City’s wild, wonderful grit.

Roma Market – Imagine a hipster haven nestled within historic walls, where gourmet tacos tango with craft beers, neon murals shimmer under fairy lights, and indie chefs whisper culinary secrets to buzzing communal tables. Mercado Roma is a vibrant bazaar for your senses, a playground for adventurous palates, where Mexico City’s gritty side gets a chic makeover, and every bite, every sip, every glimpse feels like a delicious discovery.

Walking: light

Day 4June 10, 2024

Congratulations, you’ve made it to day 4. By now you understand that an entire lifetime could be spend exploring Mexico City.

Coffee and Breakfast – Included

Vintage Hunting – We’ll head over to a legendary mercado to discover the art of haggling. You’ll experience a ballet of broken Spanish and furrowed brows. You gotta dance with the vendors, a tango of “cuánto?” and “dame un descuento, güey,” each step leading you closer to that dusty LP cover or faded band tee that whispers tales of its past life.

Pavement Cruise – We’re hitting the famous Condesa neighborhood the old-school way – on two wheels. We’ll rent bikes with a local app then hit these leafy streets that belong to us, stray dogs, and the common expat. Keep your eyes peeled for hidden courtyards dripping with bougainvillea, secret bars tucked behind unmarked doors, and boutiques peddling enough artisanal crap to bankrupt a trust funder.

Free Time/Lunch – Feel free to continue exploring on two wheels and satisfy that earned hunger at one of the infinite options.

Night at the Museum – Every Monday, over 40 museums across the city offer evening entry from 6 to 10 pm. Sometimes the best art is the kind that hides in the shadows. Pre-game is optional.

Dinner – Included

Free Time

Walking: Medium

Day 5June 11, 2024

Hello day five! Our last full day in the City and we’re going to squeeze it all.

Coyoacan for Breakfast – Included. Coyoacan is filled with colorful houses, and cobbled streets lined with secret doorways. This place is home to ancient churches that stand under the watchful gaze of Popocatépetl. This historic haven where Frida painted her pain and Diego sculpted his dreams remains a bohemian refuge, pulsating with an infectious blend of grit, art, and the soul of Mexico itself. The food is good too.

Trajinera in Xochimilco – Trajineras, these boats look like Day of the Dead piñatas threw up on a rainbow. You’ll drift through canals choked with lilies and enough drink options to satisfy any Mexican. You’ve never seen a party boat until you’ve seen one in Xochimilco. Every boat’s a party on overdrive, mariachi bands blastin’ like there’s a piñata full of pesos at the finish line.

Free Time

Dinner – Included

Lucha Libre – You know it had to be on the list. Is it scripted?? The only script is the one written in sweat, blood, and flying bodies. You’ll get out there and scream your lungs out for your favorite luchador because in this city, the only thing louder than the music is the passion of the crowd. And trust me, you don’t wanna miss the show.

Optional goodbye cocktails – We’ll visit a few spots and reflect on our trip with the people who are now our new friends. Because it’s almost impossible to visit this city with someone and not become life-long friends.

Checkout and GoodbyeJune 12, 2024

This is checkout day. Checkout is at 10 AM. You don’t have to go home, but you have to get the hell out of the casa!

Optional Goodbye Coffee – If you have the time come grab a coffee before heading to the airport.

Airport Transfer – Included. We’ll provide you with transportation to the airport.
